listelement.badge.dso-type Item , Stakeholders of sustainability transition: interventions in energy and Bangladesh RMG industry(Routledge, 2023) Shajahan, Sadril; Nourin, Sabrina; Islam, Md. Faizul; Kaium, Md. Abdullah AlThis study is grounded in the extent of engagements and exploration of strategies of non-state actors who interact in the intersection between the export intensive Bangladesh Ready Made Garments (RMG) industry, and its energy interventions, such as rooftop solar panels for renewable energy and energy efficiency machines. Given that there lies a limited number of non-state actors within such intersection, in this study we adopt qualitative research design and conduct case analysis on relevant stakeholders such as suppliers, buyers, renewable energy services companies, international organizations, research organizations and financial institutions, following an extent literature on sustainability transition, strategic management, LEED certification, Global Value Chain (GVC) of apparel industry, and stakeholders management. Our findings clearly show the contributions of these actors during an underpinning transition period of Bangladesh RMG industry toward sustainability which can be understood in terms of underlying policies, reputation management and crisis management when it comes to energy interventions. Overall, the study bridges the existing knowledge gap through identification of different level of complex engagements of actors including non-state actors, state actors and new emerging actors through contextualization of different strategies, including proactive and reactive strategies, undertaken by the non-state actors of Bangladesh RMG industry for energy interventions during transitions toward sustainability.listelement.badge.dso-type Item , Ready Made Garment (RMG) factories during the pandemic: aapping the effects in Bangladesh(Palgrave Macmillan, 2022-03-15) Shajahan, Sadril; Islam, Md. Faizul; Choudhury, Afshana; Chowdhury, Fahim SSince the start of Covid-19 Pandemic in Bangladesh, policies were steered and stimulus packages were provided by the Government for the Ready Made Garments (RMG) industry which contributes heavily on the country’s economy through exports and employment generation of millions of workers but was struggling due to pandemic triggered supply chain disruption and order cancellation from global buyers. It can be a crucial exploration to know how RMG factories fought back after reopening from one month closure during the initial stage of the Covid-19 Pandemic in Bangladesh in 2020. This analysis is a contribution to such exploration by making a comparison based on the data of export oriented RMG factories in Bangladesh from two rapid surveys conducted in two phases in 2020 for understanding the effects of the pandemic on the Bangladesh RMG sector. While factories covered by the rapid surveys were sampled from the database of the ‘Mapped in Bangladesh’ project, the comparison of this analysis addressed several important factors including operational status, capacity utilization and workers employed during Pandemic.
